In agreement with SME, we are now taking control of his Honda squad instead of Volvo. This is so that SME can run MG not Honda.

THE RULES FOR THE WORLD TOURING CAR CUP 2011

Money:

Each team will be given £10 million to spend on drivers and developments to your car.
Prize money will be given each race depending on finishing positions and these can be used to spend on either improving reliability or giving your engine more power. You will have just eight chances during the season in which to improve your car. It is up to you how much of your budget you use throughout the season, but you must state what you're using and how much you use.

Cars:

Audi, BMW (£5.0m) +40 BHP
Alfa Romeo, Holden (£4.5m) +30 BHP
Ford, Honda (£4.0m) +20 BHP
Volvo, Chevrolet (£3.5m) +10 BHP
Peugeot, Seat (£3.0m) +0 BHP
Lada, MG (£2.5m) -10 BHP

The actual BHP are not fixed in order to archieve realistic laptimes

Tyres:
Bridgestone, Goodyear will increase reliability by 500 pts (£1.0m)
Michelin, Pirelli will increase reliability by 400 pts (£800k)
Dunlop, Firestone will increase reliability by 300 pts (£600k)
Yokohama, Avon will increase reliability by 200 pts (£400k)

Any other tyre company is permitted, and will increase reliability by 100 pts. for £200,000

Race by race:
Reducing your reliability points by 1 will cost £2000, so reducing it by 250 pts will cost £500k and by 1000 pts will cost you £2m.
Increasing your engine power by 1 bhp will cost £200,000 so increasing by 10 bhp will cost £2m.

Prize money each race:
1st = £500k
2nd = £375k
3rd = £250k
4th = £175k
5th = £150k
6th = £125k
7th = £100k
8th = £75k
9th = £50k
10th = £25k
Any other finishers = £10k

Pole position = £50k
Fastest lap = £50k
Starting money = £50k

This applies per CAR, not per team.

Championship Points:
1st: 15
2nd: 12
3rd: 10
4th: 8
5th: 6
6th: 5
7th: 4
8th: 3
9th: 2
10th: 1

Pole Position: 1 pt
Fastest Lap: 1 pt

If there are less than 10 finishers, points will NOT be awarded to those who didn't finish.

Okay, guys, you have until tomorrow five o'clock in the afternoon time to fill out your plans (i.e. decide on your tyre manufacturer etc.), send me your drivers and your cars. Everything not done by that will either be automaticly chosen the worst option (tyres, oil etc.) or not included.

Qualifying - Race 1, Welkom

#18 by Klon , Sat Jan 22, 2011 5:58 pm

The World Touring Car Cup season beings now in Welkom, South Africa. The Phakisa Freeway, former home of the Motorcycle South African Grand Prix, welcomes the motivated drivers of the best touring car series in the world. And we got lucky, the track dried out very quickly after a thunderstorm has hit the venue. All 26 cars are ready and their drivers take it on the track. Not unlike the Formula Junior event, a lot of important people have arrived to watch the Cup's first race. But qualifying became a one-sided effort after Joachim Ahler pushed it to the limit and has moved his BMW around the 4.2 kilometres long track in one and a half second faster than any other driver. It is one story to qualify well, but another to use that for a brilliant finish. His biggest competitors must certainly be Kostas Kafatos for Holden and the Chevrolet of Luis Yannick. [OT: I'd like to have some opinions, do you think this style of race reports look good? Or do you have suggestions etc.]

Race 1, Welkom

#20 by Klon , Mon Jan 24, 2011 3:26 pm

Now even the last remaining spots of water have passed, just in time for the first race of the Touring Car weekend. Qualifying implied a BMW dominance and the race did not look much different. Ahler took an early lead with Kafatos behind him and pushed really hard to gain an advantage. Kostas Kafatos lost out badly very soon, since he spun off quite badly. Luckily, he was able to continue his race although he has to fight back from behind. All this does not seem to bother Joachim. But BMW does not get lucky. A failure in the electrical system caused the car to break down, four laps from the finish. With both Kafatos and Ahler out of the way, Luis Yannick was free to win the first race of the season. This obviously makes him the first championship leader as well. Behind him there were no real changes from the qualifying positons up to P6, where an impressive Tsutomu Nanjo made up five places. Kafatos' "comeback" was more or less successful with him taking P10 and the last point on the last lap.

Qualifying - Race 2, Welkom

#21 by Klon , Mon Jan 24, 2011 4:28 pm

We have two drivers that want to satisfy their desire for revenge in this session. Kostas Kafatos and Joachim Ahler both had trouble in Race 1, Ahler retired and Kafatos robbed himself of 11 possible points. With this in mind, it is not surprising that these two men are the ones battling for pole in this sixty-minute qualifying session. Kafatos really cut down the big advantage the Ahler-BMW had yesterday. Kafatos looked like pole winner for most of the session but Ahler managed a decent lap to beat his opponent by almost two tenths of a second (although he still was 0.7 seconds of his Saturday qualifying time). Unlike these two who had a lot to be happy about, the winners of Race 1, Chevrolet, failed dramaticly. Yannick starts only in fourth with Cheyenne Coombes down in twenty-first place. We are again lucky to not be struck by a horrible thunderstorm, which has been forecast for the evening.

Race 2, Welkom

#22 by Klon , Wed Jan 26, 2011 6:13 pm

Well, to cut the chase, the promises of Qualifying were kept completely in the second race of this event. Both of the top drivers, Kafatos and Ahler, were battling for victory for most of the race with the rest of the grid not involved in that battle at all. Despite that the lower point places are still very sought after. Just like in Race 1, however, electrical failures are a crucial part of the race. The showdown at the front always looked like an Ahler-win, but his Cypriot rival always stayed close, hoping for a single mistake which would have led to an attack. But unfortunately, his systems broke down on the last lap. Despite losing almost ten seconds, he brought his car home and kept second place. The podium is completed by Alexis Kamannen's Volvo after Alan Easterbrook could not finish the race due to an oil leak. Lenya Kovacevic and Helmut Sigridson score their first points of the season in eight and seventh respectively.

Qualifying - Race 1, Curitiba

#24 by Klon , Tue Feb 08, 2011 6:54 pm

Brazil will host the second round of the World Touring Car Cup and from the looks of things, not much has changed at the top: Joachim Ahler and his BMW are still the strongest force in the world of touring car racing. Almost a second difference between him and second-placed Kostas Kafatos speaks for itself. Both will be hunted by third-placed Alexis Kamannen who scores his best grid position in his short WTCC history. Championship leader Luis Yannick will have to work very hard from fourth place when he wants to lead the championship battle after the first race.
OT: Anyone having a reason why the cars are so godd**n slow? I mean, I set up the values to somewhat match WTCC times, but we are off by 20 seconds!

Race 1, Curitiba

#25 by Klon , Tue Feb 15, 2011 9:14 pm

Just like the last races, Ahler drove away in front, being virtually untouchable. Therefore the most interesting part of this race was the battle for second place which was a very exciting one with Alexis Kamannen, Kostas Kafatos and Luis Yannick very close to each other. Just one mistake of any of the three drivers would have cost them any chance at a podium. Unfortunately, Kamannen's Volvo engine expired pretty roughly. With the Finn out of the running, Yannick was able to risk a bit more to get away from the Cypriot GPWC race winner. This proved to be a very helpful action since Ahler had a massive problem with a puncture, losing out dramaticly before reaching the box. In the end he was the only finisher with one lap distance to the winner. Luis Yannick scores his second win of the season and gains a full 15 points for his early quest for the world championship. With Ahler's misfortune, Easterbrook profited and made third place ahead of Kovacevic who scores his best finish in racing so far. Another hot battle was for tenth place with Said Al-Said barely beating his opponent.
